Provisional Path — Terms of Use

Last updated: October 16, 2026 · BTS Innovations LLC

What Provisional Path is

Provisional Path is a self-help software tool and educational resource that helps you prepare and track provisional and non-provisional patent applications and guides you to the USPTO's own free programs. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. Using it does not create an attorney–client relationship. For legal advice, consult a licensed patent attorney or the USPTO Patent Pro Bono Program.

Important patent facts

A provisional application is a temporary 12-month placeholder. It is never examined, grants no enforceable rights by itself, and expires 12 months after filing. You must file a non-provisional (or PCT) application within 12 months to keep the priority date. You are responsible for your own filings, fees, signatures, and deadlines.

Subscriptions

Provisional Path Pro is an auto-renewing subscription offered through the Apple App Store (Weekly $5.99 / Monthly $19.99 / Yearly $149.99, prices may vary by region). Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel in the app's Settings or your Apple ID account settings. Each plan starts with a free 7-day trial; no account is required. After the trial, features require an active subscription.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for the accuracy of what you file with the USPTO, for meeting all deadlines, and for your own micro-entity eligibility certification. Verify all fees and program requirements with the USPTO.

Disclaimer & limitation of liability

The app is provided "as is" without warranties. To the fullest extent permitted by law, BTS Innovations LLC is not liable for any loss of rights, missed deadlines, or damages arising from use of the app. Not affiliated with or endorsed by the USPTO.
